Reception: Saturday, June 9, 2001, 5:30  8:30 PM

"Intimate Landscapes" is a retrospective, one man show of black and white photographs by one of the founding members of the Sacramento Valley Photographic Art Center (SVPAC), Lloyd Fergus.

Lupine, Salt Point

Pool and Leaves, Cataract Creek

Lloyd’s life long passion for photography began as he developed and printed his own work while in High School. After he graduated from the University of California College of Pharmacy in 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps, serving as a photographer until 1946. He continued to pursue his passion while working as a pharmacist in Davis, and began to exhibit his work in 1973.

Mushroom, Rescue

Over the past 28 years he has had many solo and group exhibitions in the Sacramento Valley area as well as San Francisco, and his work has been included in several publications. Speaking of his own work Lloyd has said that he looks for "things that are visually exciting, looking for details that are easily overlooked." "I have no pre-conceived idea of what to photograph," says Fergus, "but when something of interest is found, I try to work it into an interesting composition, or pattern and shapes that have an emotional appeal." Fergus finds his details and emotional appeal in nature, and his tool for expression is masterfully printed black and white photographs.
