The two photographers in the exhibit opening June 6 at the Viewpoint Gallery have built their careers on technical expertise in different facets of photography. Jim Galvin is a well-known machinist for photographers and the designer/builder of Galvin view cameras. Robert Hicks is an accomplished scientific and documentary photographer who has employed
his extensive technical skills in projects ranging from NASA remote sensing devices to natural and life sciences documentation to photographic recording of historical architecture and engineering.

At the same time, both men have built up impressive bodies of artistic work, as their joint exhibit shows. Roberts Hicks works entirely in black-and-white, while Jim Galvin works in both traditional black-and-white and digital color. Both are keen observers adept at creating images of subtle beauty as well as sly humor.
