Artist's Statement

Photographs representing things so common or ordinary that we tend to pass by or walk around them without much notice can excite the imagination of a viewer.

My photographic prints are almost always nonfigurative. I have; however, explored a broad range of subjects that fall somewhere between the representational and the abstract. With an emphasis on composition, I create images that are “open to interpretation” and at the same time remain relatively simple and uncluttered.

I want my work to celebrate the elegance of black and white printmaking, luxuriate in color, and perhaps, convey an unusual or interesting perspective of a subject. If a viewer can appreciate the simplicity and beauty of line and form, the opulence of saturated color, and find my compositions unusual and pleasing, then I have been successful in expressing one or more of the following three elements: Grace, beauty, and a sense of adventure.

Artist's Bio

As a native of California, I have spent many hours documenting the timeless beauty found in the landscapes and cityscapes so unique to this state. Some of these places are; famous urban areas like San Francisco, the open fields and rolling hills surrounding Sacramento, and even small, almost forgotten places like Volcano, Winters, or Locke.

After earning an Associates of Arts degree in business administration from American River College, a change of venue seemed in order. Even though music is my first love, I decided to explore the fascinating world of art history. After making that decision, I found my way to California State University, Sacramento, where I subsequently earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in art history, specializing in photography.

My post-graduate work, however, has taken a different direction in that I moved from traditionally produced black and white images into the non-traditional realm of alternative processes in fine art photography and digital collage.
