Benefits of being a member of the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center

Viewpoint Photographic Art Center exists to promote the photographic arts. We do this most visibly by operting the Viewpoint Gallery, the only gallery in the region devoted exclusively to photography. But Viewpoint also promotes photographic art through a range of other activities, including workshops, presentations, field trips, and educational outreach. We favor no particular artisitc approaches, styles or techniques—rather, we encourage and support photographic art in all of its forms, and seek to highlight the extraordinary range and quality of photographic art being produced in the Sacramento Valley. We’d like to think that anyone with an interest in photographic art would want to join Viewpoint simply to support the vitality and diversity of photography in our region. But there are numerous other reasons to belong to Viewpoint as well.

Connecting with Other Photographers
One of the main purposes of Viewpoint is to provide a community for photographic artists, in which photographers can connect with and be invigorated by others who share their passion for photography.

  • Receptions.  For each show at the Viewpoint Gallery, there is a Second Saturday reception. Members and visitors view the current show, sample the refreshments, and socialize. Talks, demonstrations, or other events are held in conjunction with the receptions for many shows.
  • Print Night.  The first Wednesday of each month, members gather at the gallery to show and discuss prints. You can bring finished prints or work prints, one print or many, in any style or medium. Or you can just drop in to see and discuss what others are doing. Print Night is low-key and informal; just come to the Viewpoint Gallery at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.
  • Field Trips.  Viewpoint sponsors photographic outings to a variety of locations several times a year. Often we visit places where individual photographers would not normally be admitted. Field trips offer a chance to socialize with other photographers while exploring a new or familiar site in search of images.
  • Membership and Business Meetings.  On the second Wednesday evening of even-numbered months, Viewpoint presents a lecture, presentation, discussion, or social event (always free) for the membership. On the second Wednesday evening of odd-numbered months, there is a business meeting—open to all—where plans for Viewpoint are discussed and made.
