Field Trip to the Delta

February 7, 2004

On the morning of February 7, about fifteen SVPAC members met in the Viewpoint Gallery parking lot for a photo expedition to the Delta—another field trip put together by intrepid Field Trip Coordinator Gene McKinnon. Many members were excited by the heavy fog as we set out for the Delta highways. Sadly, skies were bright blue by the time we crossed highway 50.

Only slightly daunted, we wound our way along the levees, back and forth across the river, through the Delta towns of Isleton, Locke, and Walnut Grove. Many images were made—film and digital, color and black & white. And for those who found few images in the bright light, there were compensating enjoyments: socializing with fellow photographers, the pleasures of exploring, and (of course) lunch.

Most participants ended the day eager for the next field trip … and for a return to the Delta when the fog is back.
