Members John and Betty Moulds arranged a photographic open house to the Julia
Morgan House on T Street in Sacramento. Julia Morgan was the first woman architect
licensed in California. During her 50 year career, she designed and
built over 700 buildings including the famous Hearst Castle in San
Simeon. This classical beaux-arts style house was built in the early 1920's and is
the only residential project of hers in Sacramento. The house was
donated to the CSUS Foundation in 1966 by the Sacramento philanthropist
Charles M. Goethe. Betty Moulds, CSUS Vice President and Chief of
Staff, oversaw a $1.7 million restoration of the building which reopened
last September. The house
is currently used for a variety of public and private functions.

About 18 SVPAC members took advantage of the
opportunity to photograph in the house and around the gardens on Sunday
April 1. The home is minimally furnished allowing the classic design to
show. The garden was full of spring flowers surrounding the rear
courtyard fountain. Large and medium format cameras were quite popular
on this field trip as well as 35mm and SX-70. Prints from this trip will
be shared at Print Night on Wednesday June 6th. So if you were there,
get into the darkroom.
SVPAC is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, donations are
deductible to the full extent of the law.
